Graduate school sometimes feels like a foreign topic but earning a master’s degree can be a great benefit to you and your career. There is a great deal to know about the graduate school process but this article will focus on the hidden gems that are a little less well known, such as the Bridge Program at Southern Utah University.
Many aren’t aware of scholarships for graduate school, the average differences in pay between someone with a master's degree and those without, the length of time it takes to get a master's, and the class experience you can expect. It is best to consider these different benefits if you are debating if you want to get a master's degree.
SUU's Bridge Program
The first big hidden secret to Southern Utah University's graduate program is the Bridge Program. The Bridge Program allows students who are a junior or higher in their undergrad degree to simultaneously earn graduate school credits, saving them both time and money. Their graduate credits will be charged as undergraduate tuition and students are able to use their financial aid to help pay for the cost.
This excellent opportunity is also flexible due to many of SUU’s graduate programs being available online, allowing for seamless integration. Students can take up to 12 graduate credit hours while they are still taking classes in their undergraduate program. Students earn credits for both their undergraduate and graduate degrees. Ultimately helping them get a jump start towards their master’s degree. Making sure you consider this option when you look at how a master’s degree will benefit you.
Graduate Aid
Alongside the Bridge Program, there is a multitude of programs you can get to help you pay and succeed in your education. Certain scholarships, tuition waivers, and/or assistantships for graduate students are awarded through separate programs and on an individual basis. Graduate students who are interested in assignments such as teaching assistants, research assistants, or graduate assistants are encouraged to contact their program representatives. To find and contact your program representative, visit SUU's Graduate Aid page.
Difference of Pay
The main goal of obtaining a degree is to find a job you love and to make a decent living with said job. Obtaining a bachelor's degree will allow you to pull ahead on the average salary scale. However, with a master's degree, you will on average make more than the average US citizen. The average salary in the US is $39,447 but with a master's degree, the average salary is $76,405. Considering the salary differences when you are thinking about grad school is a must for you and your career.
Length of Time Getting a Master’s Degree
Another major thing to consider when contemplating a master's degree is the length of time it will take you to complete your program. At SUU master’s degree programs can be accomplished within 12 months. Many programs are offered in-person as well as completely online. Whatever choice is best for you consider that earning a master's degree may be only a year away.
Whether you are looking for higher pay or more knowledge in your desired field of work, a master's degree may be the right step for you.
