Enjoy winter in Cedar CityThe weather outside may be frightful, but you know what’s even worse? Not knowing how to keep yourself occupied for the coming winter months. If you didn’t already know, Cedar City gets quite a bit of snow, despite being an hour away from sunny St. George. But wait! You don’t have to have to wallow in the winter blues when there’s so much to do, even when it’s snowing.

Your Guide to Survive Winter in Cedar City

Beat the Winter Blues

The most important thing to remember is to take care of yourself. The lack of sunlight in the winter months is notorious for throwing off your body’s natural clock and disrupting your serotonin levels. Also known as seasonal depression, the winter blues can make you feel tired, sad, or down in the dumps, period. Luckily, this is usually short-lived and can be treated naturally. To beat the winter blues, be sure to get outside, maintain a regular sleep schedule, make time for your loved ones (including yourself), and do your best to keep busy as the holidays get closer.
Here are a few more ways to feel better this winter.

Embrace Your Inner Penguin

Some people like the cold, others don’t. Regardless, there are so many activities in and around Cedar City that take place in the ice and snow. Just be sure to bundle up!

For adrenaline junkies. Go sledding, snowmobile on Cedar Mountain hit the slopes, or go tubing at Brian Head Resort.
Endurance activities. Snowshoe or cross country ski at Cedar Breaks National Monument.
Feeling young at heart. Build a snowman or have a snowball fight.
Check out the views. Hike around Zion National Park or Kolob Canyon, or check out the sky around sunset on the snowy red rock for that “fire and ice” experience.
Have a photoshoot. Head down Main Street, Cedar City Nature Park, or Thunderbird Gardens for that Insta-worthy pic.

Keeping Cozy

There’s nothing better than that first sip of hot cocoa after you get inside from skiing. Here are some ways to stay warm this winter in Cedar City.

Grab a drink with a friend. Check out The Grind Cafe or 21eleven Coffee (or your local Starbucks) for a drink and a snack to warm you up inside and out!
Take a dip in the hot springs. Located just an hour and a half-ish outside Cedar City, Southern Utah has two natural hot springs: Panaca Warm Springs and Meadow Hot Springs. More options are a bit longer of a drive, but still completely worth it.
Go on a (safe) drive. Nestled just 12 miles outside Cedar City is Wood’s Ranch. Or, if you’re up for a longer adventure, head to Duck Creek Village for activities and great food!

Around Campus

Calling all Southern Utah University students! If you’ve gone through both lists, here are some things you can do in your dorm or at home to stay warm this season.

Great T-Bird bake-off. Share your favorite treats! It’s great practice for when you want to share with others.
Explore your winter wonderland. Go have a snow day together! Use ideas from the lists above to put together your agenda.
