Registration season is probably one of the most anticipated and anxious times of the year for college students. Between picking classes, submitting applications for programs and scholarships, and studying for finals, it can feel overwhelming figuring out your plans for the coming semester. Luckily, Southern Utah University’s online course catalog is the perfect place to start looking at options for your schedule builder. Here’s everything you need to know about the basics of using the course catalog.
First, go to the course catalog webpage. Here you will see a layout of anything you might be interested in learning about for your coming registration date. This page offers links to the different programs and degrees, course information, SUU’s different colleges and schools, academic policies, international affairs information, and everything you need to know about tuition and financial aid. You will also see a key with common icons that you will see as you block out your schedule through the catalog.
Here’s an in-depth look at what each section of the course catalog webpage means for you.
Programs and Degrees
If you select the link to the programs and degrees page, you will be taken to another page with more links. On this page, you'll find General Education, Undergraduate Degrees, Graduate Degrees, Programs by College, and All Programs. These pages give you a detailed overview of everything pertaining to the classes you will need to stay on track to graduate as you go about planning your schedule for the whole of your college experience at SUU.
Course Information
The page titled “course information” provides a list of all the courses SUU offers. The courses are listed alphabetically. If you click on any given class, you will see a detailed summary of what the course entails and what level it is intended for. You can also enter a class and its number in the search engine if there’s a specific course you’re looking for.
Colleges and Schools
The college and schools page is relatively easy to navigate. Simply select the icon, and a list of all SUU’s unique colleges and schools will appear. Select the link below, and you can get more information about any college you’re interested in.
Academic Policies
If you’re curious about the more comprehensive aspects of registering for next semester, the academic policies page is the place to go. Here you can find elaborate statements and explanations concerning things like general policies, admissions policies, registration policies, grading and credit policies, and Utah residency policies. So before you hit a wall in your registration process, make sure you read the fine print!
International Affairs
The international affairs page provides information about all things international. There are resources available for undergraduate and graduate international students, international admissions for early college students, options for dual enrollment students, immigration requirements, and the intensive English program. Whether English is your first, second, or third language, SUU has the resources to help you succeed!
Financial Aid
Finally, the financial aid page is about exactly what you’d expect it to be about; financial aid, scholarships, tuition, you get the idea. Visit this page to learn all about tuition and fees, financial aid policies, and scholarship opportunities. If you have any further questions, talk to the Financial Aid Office on campus in the student center; they can help you figure out the best plan for you.
Discover what options are available to you as you prepare for registration through the SUU course catalog. If you would like any special insight into building a schedule or if you have any questions, talk to your Academic Advisor. They can help you find which classes you need to take to complete your generals, and advance to more major-specific courses within your field of study. Don’t know who your Academic Advisor is? Follow the “Meet With My Advisor” link on the Academic Advising webpage and select the college or school you’re a part of.
