On the evening of March 16, 2023, Southern Utah University hosted its annual scholarship banquet. The event brought together 250 attendees, including faculty, alumni, and donors who generously contribute to the scholarship funds, and many scholarship recipients.
The highlight of the night was the inspiring speeches delivered by two student speakers, Please Lukau and Denver Eckman, who shared their personal stories of how scholarships had helped them pursue their academic dreams. Their gratitude was palpable as they spoke about the positive impact that scholarships had on their lives, and how it has allowed them to focus on their education without worrying about financial constraints.
An Alumnus of SUU, Julie Andersen Hill, shared her experiences as a former student who had also received a scholarship and how it had enabled her to complete her degree and achieve success in her career. Her speech was a testament to the life-changing power of scholarships and the difference they can make in the lives of students.
Despite being unable to attend in person, President Benson sent a powerful video message that expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the donors for their unwavering support of the students. She acknowledged the significant impact that scholarships have on students' lives.
Adding to the ambiance of the evening, a four-piece string quartet, comprised of SUU music students, provided delightful music for the event. The soothing melodies added a touch of elegance to the banquet, and it was an excellent way to showcase the musical talents of the students.
The annual scholarship banquet was a perfect opportunity for students, faculty, and donors to come together and celebrate the generosity of those who support the scholarship funds. It was a night of renewing old friendships, making new ones, and above all, giving thanks for the incredible support that has blessed the lives of so many SUU students.
