Ensuring the safety and security of college students and their belongings is more critical today than ever before. With the rising concerns surrounding personal safety, it's essential that universities can provide effective solutions that address these challenges head-on. Through the Health and Wellness Center, SUU students can get free lock boxes-an important resource for safeguarding medications, valuables and important documents.

What is a Lock Box?

A lock box is a secure storage unit designed to keep items safe and inaccessible to unauthorized users. Available in various types-including combination, key-based, and electronic-lockboxes cater to a range of security needs. They are commonly used to store medications, valuables, documents, hazardous items, etc.

Where to Get a Lock Box on Campus?

The Health and Wellness Center offers free lock boxes in the Sharwan Smith Center room 175A. Their program operates on a no-questions-asked policy, ensuring that every student has the opportunity to secure their belongings without any stigma. Each lock box comes equipped with a combination lock and easy-to-follow instructions, making it simple for students to start using it right away.

How to Use Your Lock Box Effectively?

  • Setting up your combination: when you receive your lock box, follow the instructions to set your own combination. Choose a number you can easily remember, but avoid obvious sequences.
  • Deciding what to store: consider what items you wish to secure. Medications, valuables, and essential documents are excellent candidates for lock box storage.
  • Maintenance and care tips: keep your lock box in a cool, dry place to prevent damage. Regularly check the condition of the lock and ensure it remains functional.
