SUU Academic Internship Coordinators

Responsibilities
Academic Internship Coordinators play a vital role in bridging the gap between the Career and Professional Development Center, students, and internship providers. Their key responsibilities include (excerpt from Internship SUU Policy 6.3):
- Serve as the liaison between the Career and Professional Development Center and the Internship Provider.
- Earn Instructional Credit Hours (ICHs) based on SUU Policy 6.27.
- Keep records of ICHs and student involvement in internships (excluding the Master Internship Agreement).
- Approve student internships and learning objectives, ensuring they meet academic and departmental standards.
- Assist students in registering for appropriate Internship courses (e.g., 2890, 4890, or 6890).
- Supervise and mentor students through site visits or evaluations, maintaining academic rigor as outlined by the policy.
- Evaluate final academic work and assign a Pass/Fail grade.
- Review any additional departmental Internship requirements annually with the curriculum committee.

To support your role as an Academic Internship Coordinator, the following resources are available:
Internship Orientation: Comprehensive onboarding materials for coordinators and students. The content of this slideshow should be included in each orientation; however, additional information can be added to meet the needs of your department.
Internship Learning Agreement (ILA): A document signed by the Academic Internship Coordinator, the Site Supervisor, and the Student that outlines the goals, objectives, and expectations of each party. This form is also used to register your student for the appropriate course for internship credit.
Master Internship Agreement (MIA): A legally binding agreement between SUU and the internship provider, retained for five years and adaptable with assistance from SUU’s legal and risk management teams.
How to obtain a signed Master Internship Agreement Form
The Master Internship Agreement ensures that all parties involved have a clear understanding of the internship’s expectations and responsibilities.
Steps to Get Started:
- Check Existing Agreements:
If you do not already have the tracking form, contact cpdinternship@suu.edu to determine if a Master Internship Agreement has been completed for your employer. - Access the Form:
Download the Master Internship Agreement which is listed under the resources section of this page. - Coordinate with the Employer:
Share the form with your internship provider and review the terms together. Discuss any necessary adjustments to ensure alignment with their policies. - Submit the Form:
Once the form is completed, email it to cpdinternships@suu.edu. The Career and Professional Development Center will keep a record of the agreement.
