Emphases Available for Mathematics Majors

The Actuarial Science Emphasis at SUU focuses on applying mathematical and statistical methods to assess risk and financial impact for individuals and organizations. This program prepares students for professional certification through the Society of Actuaries and careers in risk management and financial forecasting. With coursework covering probability, statistics, economics, and programming, graduates are ready to pursue roles in insurance, pensions, and investment planning.

SUU is one of only a handful of institutions that offer a bachelor’s degree in engineering technology with an emphasis in CAD/CAM. In our program, students gain experience in mechanical design, architectural design, civil design, layout and design, 3D solid modeling, parametrics, kinematics’ analysis, finite element analysis, animation analysis, rendering, rapid prototyping and more. Graduates who possess these skills are in high demand.

Electromechanical Emphasis integrates mechanical, electrical and software technologies to design and manufacture products that are robust, socially responsible, and cost-effective. The program prepares graduates for careers in mechanical, electronics, or manufacturing engineering with a focus on automation and control systems. Students gain practical experience through faculty-assisted internships and employment at local or national firms. Graduates can pursue roles as mechanical/electrical designers or manufacturing/electrical engineers in engineering or manufacturing companies.
