The Southern Utah University Forensics Team will host its annual "Red Rock Classic" speech and debate tournament on the Cedar City campus Saturday and Sunday, October 2 and 3.
About 20 colleges and universities from throughout the nation are expected at the event. Included in the competition will be three of the top 10 individual event programs in the nation, and several of the top programs in parliamentary and policy debate.
"It is a great honor for our program to be respected enough by these schools to come to Cedar City and enter our tournament,” SUU Forensics Director, Dr. Terry West, states.
Attracting this caliber of competition, West says, helps SUU recruit and retain students, “They see SUU as a 'major player' in forensics. . .(and) coming here after looking for the best forensics program on their list."
Events other than debate will include limited preparation current events speeches, memorized public speeches, and oral interpretation of literature.
The tournament will repeat history by displaying some of the most intellectual and thought-provoking performances available in the college community. Competition rounds are open to the public. For further information, contact Dr. Terry West, Director of Forensics, at 435.586-5452
