The third annual Scholarship Jubilee of Southern Utah University is taking place on September 17 this year, but the excitement over this glamorous affair is already brewing. Gourmet food. Sparkling attire. Very attractive prizes worth thousands of dollars. And, best of all, all proceeds from this popular event go toward scholarships for SUU students.
The evening’s extravaganza begins with a Great Gatsby fanfare arrival at 3:30 in the afternoon. A black- tie optional event, period wear is also encouraged. Photo opportunity next to a vintage car is the first station at which to stop. Digital souvenir photos will be ready for guests before the end of the evening. Then, registration takes place on the main floor of the Hunter Conference Center. Elaborate hors d’oeuvres and a Silent Auction will be awaiting guests in the Whiting Room at a reception hosted by SUU President and Mrs. Steven Bennion.
The Auction feature of the Jubilee includes a silent and live auction, and new this year, an online auction to allow more participation by out-of-state alumni and guests. Online bidding begins September 7 at www.suu.edu/ad/advancement/jubilee/
Enviable auction items include JetBlue Airline tickets to anywhere they fly non-stop; handmade cedar chests; an authentic Persian rug; golf and ski trip packages; fine art pieces and framed paintings; professional sports memorabilia; and much, much more.
An elegant, sit-down and full-course dinner, prepared by the finest chefs from around southern Utah, will be served at 5:45 p.m. in the Great Hall. Over-the-top décor, by Vintage Celebrations out of St. George, promises to emphasize adventure and delight for Jubilee-goers.
The Live Auction will be conducted by professional auctioneer, Eric Nelson, from Las Vegas. His speedy speech and grand gavel will make for some fun indulgence that will reap some very valuable prizes into the hands of bidding guests.
Again, the SUU Jubilee is bringing headline Las Vegas entertainment to the front door steps of Cedar City. “Legends in Concert” will give their usual fascinating performance in the Great Hall this year—guaranteed to be specially-tailored for the Jubilee audience.
Scholarship fundraising is the foremost priority of the Advancement Office of SUU. “The results of the Jubilee helps many more SUU students receive scholarship funds than could otherwise be possible,” Jack Jenks, SUU’s Executive Director of Development, said. “Thanks to the marvelous support of SUU alumni and friends who attend the Jubilee, many SUU students are able to achieve their dreams.
“The SUU Scholarship Jubilee is the only experience of its kind in Iron County,” Jenks said. “For this reason, and the fact that its proceeds help SUU students, the Jubilee has truly become a ‘must attend event.’”
Dapper derbies. Fabulous flapper gowns. Fun and food. Spectacular auction items. It’s something you’ll want to be part of. For just $125, each guest can enjoy dinner, the auctions, headliner entertainment. All proceeds go to scholarships for SUU students. The donation is $75 tax deductible. Sponsorships can be obtained at the Jubilee website listed above.
