It is a challenge for both employers and employees to find good, skilled employees, and good-paying, challenging positions, respectively. The Southern Utah University Career Fair, (Wednesday, October 19), however, is trying to help both parties fulfill their needs.

Susan Linder, director of SUU’s Career Services office, explains that, “The Career Fair is a chance for off-campus employers to come to campus to tout their full-time, post graduation professional jobs, internships and summer jobs to our students once per semester.”

A large pool of reputable employers are invited to reach this fresh-to-the-educated-market of University students, face-to-face in a different but great interviewing environment.

More than 60 employers will attend the Fall 2005 Career Fair on Wednesday, October 19, in the Ballroom from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The employers will be actively recruiting SUU students for careers, summer jobs and internships. Last year, more than 80 members of the Class of 2004 found careers with employers at the Career Services Fairs. Employers include Target, Wells Fargo Financial, the FBI, Walgreens, Del Sol, USDA Farm Service Agency, Fastenal Company, HJ & Associates, LLC, Learn Key, Inc., Schwan Food Company, and SkyWest Airlines

Students seeking internships, too, should plan to attend the Fair. All are encouraged to dress professionally and bring multiple copies of their resumes, as most of the employers conduct on-the-spot professional interviews. Students are encouraged to sign up now for interviews, in the Career Services office as limited time slots fill up quickly.

Prior to the Fair, employers can post their job announcements at SUU Career Services, for free, any time. Jobs are also posted on a local website which gets about 14,000 hits per month from students to alumni. To post any position, employers may call (435) 586-5420, fax a job description to (435) 586-5422.

Beyond their Career Fair program, SUU’s Career Services maintains an electronic resume database for seniors and past graduates; they can run a match with resumes to find the ideal employee for any position.
