Dancers Express Life Through Their Medium

Enjoy a glimpse into the souls of student choreographers and dancers by experiencing Breaking Boundaries, A Student Dance Showcase. This event is presented by the SUU College of Theatre Arts and Dance, from December 5th through 9th, at 7:30 p.m. in the SUU Auditorium.

Tickets are available in advance at the ticket office 435-586-7878 and at the door, and are $10 for General Admission, $8 for SUU Faculty and Staff, $5 for with a non-SUU student ID, and Free for SUU Students with a valid SUU I.D

The student dance showcase features the choreography of eleven theatre arts and dance students: Cassandra Averill, Katie Fernandez, Katherine Goodell, Melissa Holm, Gwen Jensen, Saki Kawakita, Jesse Metcalf, Lynette Probst, Jill Stark, Katie Wackowski, and Heather Young.

The pieces cover many different themes and genres of dance. KIRSJA, by Jill Stark reflects that revenge is the reaction of pain. Visions of Children, by Melissa Holm is uplifting, joyous and heartwarming. The piece helps the audience realize the joy of children. SUDUKO, by Saki Kawakita, features Nikolais/Louis dance technique and was inspired by a SUDUKO puzzle where every dance represents a number.

Melissa Holm SUU student choreographer and dancer states, “The Student Dance Concert this year is a very light-hearted, fun production that any audience would love to see. The choreographers and dancers are really excited to showcase their work.”
