World Renown Ceramicist is presenting at SUU Art Insights

The SUU Department of Art and Design will feature John Neely in this weeks Art Insights, Thursday, November 9th at 7 p.m. in the J.L. Sorenson Physical Education Building, room 101. Neely will present “Life through Ceramic Lenses,” a presentation which will cover the inspirations for his work and career in ceramics. Neely has presented workshops and lectures across the country and around the world.

Neely’s work has been selected to appear in over 100 domestic exhibitions and in numerous publications. It has also been featured nationally and internationally in Australia, Norway, Japan, New Zealand, China, and Korea in print and on exhibition.

Neely’s education includes undergraduate and postgraduate training in the United States as well as two highly coveted ceramic fellowships in Japan. He is currently the Department Head of the art department at Utah State University where he has taught since 1989.

Susan Harris, SUU Associate Professor of Art states, “John Neely is very much in demand as a speaker and presenter at international conferences and symposia, and he is an acclaimed expert on wood fired ceramics and kiln design. He is an active artist whose work is most admired for it's perfection of form, sublime craftsmanship and unique, stunning surfaces.”

Art Insights is a weekly program hosted during the Fall and Spring semesters by the Art and Design faculty. Art Insights brings professionals from many different fields of the visual art world to Cedar City. Admission is free, and the general public is invited to attend.
