Free Depression Screenings for Community

Southern Utah University’s Wellness Center will host free depression screenings for the SUU and Cedar City communities this Wednesday, October 17 from 10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m.

Along with the free screenings at the Wellness Center in SUU’s Sharwan Smith Student Center, there will be free pamphlets and other information on depression, stress, suicide, anxiety and panic. The Wellness Center has offered this screening every year for the past few years, but this is the first time it has been opened up to the Cedar City community as well. According to Wellness Center staff member Susan Garner, it is important for everyone to learn to recognize and respond to depression.

While the Wellness Center cannot offer counseling following the free screenings as part of this service, they will offer referrals to credible outside agencies. To help encourage those in need to participate, everyone who receives a free screening will be entered in a drawing for door prizes.
