Along with a featured spot in the exhibit, Ocampo also received a grant from the Council’s Artist Endowment Fund to honor his participation in the arts and aid in professional development.

According to the Utah Arts Council, Ocampo was up against more than 80 very challenging competitors for one of the 19 the grant and exhibit awards. States the Council’s Executive Director Margaret Hunt, “(The Council receives) applications of high caliber from artists throughout Utah. I would say one of the hardest parts of this program is often deciding who will receive a grant. There are so many talented and passionate artists in Utah who are worthy of recognition.”

The Council’s exhibition at the Rio Gallery opens Friday, December 7, with a special opening reception featuring performances by grant awardees, including Ocampo. The reception will run from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., and the exhibit will remain open to the public for free until January 5, 2008.
