SUU To Host Regional FFA Contest

Southern Utah University and its Block and Bridle Club will play host to students from more than 15 Utah high schools as its conducts its annual Future Farmers of America contest on February 17, 2009, in the Haze Hunter Conference Center. 

The schools represent the southern region of the state and include from Area Nine: Beaver, Bryce Valley, Cedar, Canyon View, Long Valley, Millard, Panquitch and Parowan and from Area Ten: Dixie, Desert Hills, Enterprise, Hurricane, Kanab, Pine View and Snow Canyon. 

Students will be competing in a number of contests, including, parliamentary procedures, creed speaking, extemporaneous speaking and prepared public Speaking. Winners in each contest will then compete in the state contest held during the Utah State FFA Convention in Logan, Utah later this year. 

Dean Winward, Associate Professor of Agriculture commented on the opportunity the event provides the campus saying, "Our main purpose is to provide a central place where the contest could be held and to have high school students come to SUU and have a great experience while they are here. We will provide some of the judges for the contest and will have recruiting booths set up to provide information about SUU. 

Sara Reeve, a senior Elementary Education major from Monticello, Utah and the Block and Bridle Club President adds, "Basically, I feel that it is a great opportunity for us to be able to help and get in those service opportunities. We hope that the competition runs smoothly and that the students have a good time and a positive experience. "
