The Southern Utah University Department of Music will present Opera Scenes: “Vixens, Rascals and Saints” on Friday and Saturday, November 13 and 14, at 7:30 p.m. in Thorley Recital Hall.

“Vixens, Rascals and Saints” will feature a variety of scenes from operas and musical theatre, including selections from “Sweeney Todd,” Mozart’s opera “The Marriage of Figaro,” “Wicked,” and “The Sound of Music.”

Students enrolled in SUU’s Opera/Musical Theatre course, taught by SUU Professor of Music Carol Modesitt, were responsible for selecting and directing the scenes, as well as creating the script for the show. The course is designed to provide a learning experience in performance study as well as directing. Professor Modesitt said, “This is a great learning opportunity for the students to be on the other side of the table. They learn valuable directing skills. Also, they learn how to be creative with a tiny budget.”

Tickets are available online or by calling (435) 586-7872, and are $6 for general admission, $4 for SUU Faculty and Staff, $4 for students and children, and SUU students attend free with a valid student ID.
