Ticket prices are $6 for general admission, $4 for SUU faculty and staff, and $3 for youth. SUU students attend for free.
Winners of the SUU Concerto Competition will be featured as soloists with the Wind Symphony. Junior Tashina Wortham will perform the first and third movements of “Clarinet Concerto No. 2,” by Malcolm Arnold. The third movement of the concerto was orchestrated for wind symphony by Junior Randy Dulaney. Sophomore Gary J. Howe will perform the “Concerto for Marimba and Band,” by Bradley Bodine.
Contestants for the concerto competition submitted concerto recordings in November 2009. A committee of SUU music faculty narrowed the submissions to a group of four finalists who were invited to perform live for the judges in December 2009. Wortham and Howe were selected as the winners of the competition with the honor of performing their concertos with the Wind Symphony. The Wind Symphony will perform various other compositions in addition to the concertos.
The SUU Wind Symphony is comprised of outstanding wind and percussion students, both music majors and non-music majors from every college on campus under the direction of Dr. Mark Stickney. The Wind Symphony is committed to the performance of the highest quality contemporary and traditional works in the wind band repertoire. Innovative concerts, adventurous programming, and high level music making are the hallmark of this ensemble.
