U.S. Senate Candidates to Debate at SUU

The Michael O. Leavitt Center for Politics & Public Service is presenting a debate between Tim Bridgewater, Sam Granato and Mike Lee – the candidates for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Bob Bennett – on Wednesday, June 16, from 7-8 p.m. in the Gilbert Great Hall of Southern Utah University’s Haze Hunter Conference Center.

This is the only debate between these candidates in southern Utah.

The candidates will take questions prepared in advance by the debate organizing committee as well as questions from the audience. The debate will be moderated by Rod Decker, long-time political reporter and talk show host for KUTV 2 News. Questions for the candidates may be submitted to leavittcenter@suu.edu.

A meet-and-greet reception with the candidates will begin immediately following the debate.

Tim Bridgewater (R) is a candidate for the Utah Republican Party nomination for the U.S. Senate seat. He is the chairman and founder of Interlink Capital Strategies and was the Utah County Republican Party chairman and member of the Utah Republican State Central Committee. Sam Granato (D) is the Utah Democratic Party nominee for the U.S. Senate seat. He is the president of Frank Granato Importing Company, chairman of the Alcoholic Beverage Control Commission, and was previously chairman of the Salt Lake Valley Board of Health. Mike Lee (R) is a candidate for the Utah Republican Party nomination for the U.S. Senate seat. He is an attorney at Howrey LLP, and has previously served as an assistant U.S. attorney in Salt Lake City, as Governor Huntsman’s general Counsel, and as clerk to Justice Alito at the U.S. Supreme Court.
