U.S. Senate Majority Leader and SUU alumnus Harry Reid will speak at Southern Utah University in a fireside chat with SUU President Michael T. Benson as part of the University’s Convocations Lecture Series — open to the public — on Thursday, September 1, at 2:30 p.m. in the Great Hall within the Haze Hunter Conference Center.
This opportunity to hear from one of the nation’s most influential political leaders in an intimate campus setting is unprecedented for current students, faculty and staff.
While Benson will direct the majority of the program, Reid will also field queries submitted by the audience through text messaging during the moderated convocation.
Following the convocation, Reid will join with top administrators and friends of the University for a special announcement to the media, relative to the former Thunderbird’s involvement on the Southern Utah University campus.
About Senator Harry Reid
Reid was a member of the College of Southern Utah’s Class of 1959 and spent much of his time in southern Utah exploring the region’s landscape. He has long been a champion for the great outdoors — not only for Nevada, but for the West.
A senator for Nevada since 1986 and currently serving his fourth term, Reid has worked hard to build up Nevada and has a strong record of accomplishments. He is an advocate of ending the foreclosure crisis in Nevada and also reducing the cost of health care while simultaneously increasing the number of Nevada residents who have medical insurance. He has also proven himself a strong advocate for public education and public safety.
