Wind Symphony Launches 2011-12 Music Masterworks Series

From an American classic to a symphony inspired by the “Lord of the Rings,” SUU’s Wind Symphony will start off this season’s Music Masterworks Series with a uniquely diverse program – sure to please all music fans.
Under the direction of Dr. Douglas Harris, the symphony is set to perform an entertaining and enchanting program on Tuesday, October 4, at 7:30 p.m. in Cedar City’s Heritage Theatre.
The evening will be Dr. Douglas Harris’ directorial debut and he has selected a wide range of music for the performance. SUU’s Wind Symphony will perform Aaron Copland’s “Down a Country Lane,” “Chorale and Shaker Dance” composed by John Zdechlik, “National Emblem March” by E.E. Bagley, “Lauds (Praise High Day)” by Ron Nelson, “The Sinfonians” by Clifton Williams. The two selections that will be the most recognizable are Johan de Mij’s symphony No. I ‘The Lord of the Rings,’ Movement I ‘Gandalf’ and Johann Sebastian Bach’s “Fantasia in G Major."
Subscriptions for the Music Masterworks Series, including all eight events, are still available. Subscription prices are $52 for adults and $26 for students and children. For individual events, tickets are $8 for adults, $6 for SUU Faculty and Staff, and $4 for students and children.

ABOUT THE COLLEGE
The Southern Utah University College of Performing and Visual Arts is comprised of nationally accredited departments of Art and Design, Music, Theatre Arts and Dance, as well as a graduate program in Arts Administration.
