SUU communication students Dallan Wright, a junior from Boise, Idaho, and sophomore Parker Walbeck, from Draper, Utah, will be awarded $500 for their submission to the University’s Experience More Video and Billboard Contest.

The pair’s winning video submission, “Experience More at SUU,” embodies the University’s new Experience More tagline popping up in print and on billboards since the new slogan was announced at the beginning of the 2012-13 school year.

"Dallan and Parker’s video made people smile and laugh, and excited to share it with others," said Vice President for University Relations Dean O'Driscoll.

From a marketing standpoint, O’Driscoll explained, "When you trigger an emotional reaction to your message, you increase recall tenfold.” O’Driscoll said the creative writing and “a bit of an irreverent approach” Wright and Walbeck used in their submission “really struck a chord with people who have seen the video."

The Experience More Video and Billboard Contest is an opportunity for students, faculty and alumni to showcase their talents and help promote Southern Utah University.

"We have incorporated the contests into the Experience More marketing campaign because we have a campus full of creative minds who, given the proper motivation, will help us tell the SUU story from different perspectives,” explained O’Driscoll. “Every one of us T-Birds have a different experience at SUU, and all of those experiences together make Southern Utah University the great school we all enjoy.”

O’Driscoll said current students are so valuable when speaking to the SUU experience “because they are living it every day."

Wright, who plays the lead role in the video submission, and Walbeck mark the first high-level award-winning submission in this ongoing contest, which will continue throughout the spring semester, with prizes to be awarded monthly.

Again, all SUU students, faculty, staff and alumni are welcome to submit their own ideas to interpret and market “Experience More” as it relates to SUU. Video submissions should be no longer than two minutes; billboard submissions should be proportioned at 14 x 48. Additional details can be found at suu.edu/ur/contest.

Wright and Walbeck will receive their $500 award in a presentation during the Women’s Gymnastics Meet at 7 p.m. in the Centrum Arena on Friday, February 1.
