Southern Utah University’s Department of Music faculty are having their lesson plans and lectures put to the test when they all come together, for one night only, in "Collaboration!, A Faculty Recital" on Monday, February 11.
This free recital will showcase the talents of SUU faculty musicians collaborating on a variety of instrumental and vocal assortments, ranging from a piano duet to a violin performance and multiple vocalists singing popular classics. This group effort promises to be a night of entertainment, a rare musical treat that will showcase the outstanding talent among SUU's own for all the campus (and community) to see.
Dr. Lawrence Johnson, associate professor of voice and the recital's lead director, said, “The theme, ‘collaboration,’ will emphasize to both students and patrons the unique process of our faculty working together as artists to produce extraordinary music that not only entertains but also enhances the musical experience.”
The night will feature the works of trombonist Michelle Lambert, soprano Carol Ann Modesitt, and flutist Dr. Virginia Stitt and on the piano, Dr. Willem van Schalkwyk. Dr. Christian Bohnenstengel and Dr. van Schalkwyk will perform a duet and Dr. Lawrence Johnson and Jackie Jackson will perform a duet accompanied by Tracey Bradshaw. Also on the program is a performance by violinist Xun Sun.
The event begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Thorley Recital Hall. The recital is free, and all are encouraged to attend. For more information on the SUU College of Performing and Visual Arts' spring event line-up, call the Arts Hotline at 435-865-8800 or visit suu.edu/arts.
