Open Futsal Tourney to support SUU Soccer

Though the snow just melted and the evening’s chill is still biting, SUU’s soccer team isn’t sitting still, busy at work preparing for the team’s annual Futsal Fundraiser Tournament, which is slated for March 4 – 7. And all SUU students, faculty and staff are invited to join them in kicking off the winter doldrums.
“We’ve been having this tournament for quite some time and it’s something all of us look forward to each year,” said Adam Farsi, assistant women’s soccer coach. “Futsal is a fun way to get involved and also help out the program.”
Farsi also said the interest across campus in the futsal tournament has grown year after year, and the team is excited to join with fellow soccer enthusiasts in friendly competition, to help raise money for SUU Soccer.
A slight departure from the traditional futbol match, futsal is a form of indoor soccer that is played on a court with only five players and a smaller ball and smaller boundaries.
As in years past, SUU’s futsal tournament is designed for coed teams. Teams must consist of at least five players, and two female players must be on the court at all times throughout the game.
All participants are guaranteed five games and will receive a tournament T-shirt. The Futsal Fundraising The tournament entry fee is $20 per participant, and a cash prize will be awarded to the winning team.
Games will take place in the evenings next Monday through Thursday, and a final game schedule will be announced shortly before the tournament begins. All those who are interested can email Adam Farsi by Friday, March 1 at soccersuu@gmail.com.
