Test your Luck in St. Patty's Fun Run

A wave of green is set to wash over Canyon Park in Cedar City on March 23 for the inaugural St. Patrick’s Day 5K and Fun Run, sponsored by Southern Utah University’s Department of Nursing.

The event will include a 5K and a one-mile fun run for children under 12-years old. Runners will set out from Canyon Park at 8:30 a.m., their course wrapping around the park.

An opportunity for every southern Utah runner to recuperate after their St. Patrick’s Day celebrations, the race will extend the lucky day’s festivity through the next week to accommodate SUU student runners who will be on Spring Break the weekend before.

Though March 17th will have passed, competitors are asked to dress in green. Prizes will be given to runners with the best outfits and the fastest time in each age division. The grand prize will be a one-night stay for two at the Brian Head Resort.

Participants may register online. Registration fees for the 2013 St. Patrick’s Day 5K and Fun Run are $25 for 5K runners and $15 for the one-mile run. T-shirts will only be given to participants who register before March 8. Following that deadline, registration fees for 5K runners will be reduced to $20 and for one-mile runners, $10. Registration will also be available on race day.

Proceeds from the Fun Run will be used to support Relay for Life and third-level SUU nursing students. For those community members interested in donating to either cause but who do not wish to run, cash and check donations will be accepted without race registration.

The Relay for Life organization has had a long presence in Cedar City, one of its annual stops in a nationwide fundraising effort to support the American Cancer Society. The SUU Nursing Department will use a portion of race funds to sponsor a relay team in this year’s Relay for Life in Cedar City, slated for April 19–20 in SUU’s Eccles Coliseum.
