The Utah State Board of Regents has released the official position description for Southern Utah University's 16th president.

According to state Regent Mark Stoddard, chair of the presidential search committee, "The position description is a result of input received from SUU faculty, staff and students, as well as the wider community, gathered at public meetings."

The University hosted a succession of open meetings between various SUU constituents and the 21-member search committee appointed to select the next president at the end of May, just weeks after the University's current president, Michael Benson, announced he had accepted a position as president of Eastern Kentucky University.

With the search now officially underway, Stoddard says the position description is just the beginning of a very intensive and thoughtful process to select the right candidate for the job.

"We are continuing to meet with the public to identify the key personal qualities required of the next president of Southern Utah University," said Stoddard. "The search committee and I are confident that this process will yield some excellent candidates, one of whom will become the next leader of SUU and guide the university effectively in its mission as a premier liberal arts and sciences institution.”

According to the Board of Regents, charged with hiring the top-level administrators of all the state's public universities and colleges, it is anticipated the search will take eight to twelve months to complete, as it takes time to find the right person to be the next president and accommodate the transition for that selected individual from one post to the next.
