An SUU graphic design major is seeking community assistance in completing a final project well beyond the traditional bounds of most student design portfolios.

Tawny Caldwell, an SUU senior from St. George, will work alongside her mentor and SUU graphic design professor, Jeff Hanson, to assist North Elementary and its Parent Teacher Association (PTA) in the completion of a floor-to-ceiling mural designed by the student winner of North’s “Drug Free Coloring Contest.”

Caldwell is seeking volunteers to help in the large-scale replication of the young student’s crayon drawing, by way of painting assistance on a come-and-go basis throughout the day on Friday, August 16. Caldwell estimates she will be at North painting from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and welcomes all willing volunteers from the SUU, North Elementary and general Cedar City communities.

Little painting experience is needed from volunteers, as Caldwell will first outline the mural on the wall; volunteers will then simply “color within the lines.”

Volunteers willing to give any amount of time on the designated painting day should contact Tawny Caldwell directly at 435-313-4183.
