Live, from Diamond Z Arena in Cedar City, it’s Muddy Night Football!
Mud Football, a twist on the typical American sport but instead leaves players smeared with mud from head to toe. This favorite Southern Utah University tradition began years ago and took a small hiatus, but it’s back with a vengeance on Thursday, October 3.
Welcoming all students, faculty, staff and alumni to throw the pigskin and get extremely dirty, the SUU Student Association (SUUSA) will offer this event for free from 4-6 p.m. at Diamond Z Arena on Cross Hollow Road.
Taking place at the area’s rodeo grounds, the field is perfect for this riotous activity according to Kelsie Thornton, SUUSA event director. “Having it in a rodeo arena will mean the mud will be up to your knees and there will be no rocks in sight. It’s the perfect field for mud football.”
Worried about getting mud on your clothes? Just come and watch your peers get slimed and enjoy a slice of free pizza.
The Mud Football Game is the first of many activities as part of Homecoming Week, which will run from Monday, October 7 through the Saturday, October 12. With activities happening each day next week, start sharing that Thunderbird Pride in SUU’s dirtiest tradition, where mudslinging is not only allowed, it's encouraged.
