With the spring semester comes one of the University's longest standing traditions: the Thunderbird Awards. But before the ball gowns and tuxes—as the University's only black tie affair—comes the nominations. And for that, we need YOUR help.

Created to honor the best and brightest T-Birds each year in Oscar-style grandeur, the Thunderbird Award honors SUU superstars—a small token of appreciation for the contributions and accomplishments of students, faculty, staff and community members.

Each year, nominations are accepted from members of the campus community who wish to formally recognize those individuals who have made exceptional contributions throughout the academic year. Awards are granted for excellence in eleven different categories; professor of the year, organization of the year and contributors of the year are among the most prestigious awards given. Nominations for the 2014 Thunderbird Awards will be accepted through Wednesday, January 22.

Nominations may be submitted online at suu.edu/ss/tbirdawards, where a comprehensive list of categories can be found. Eligibility requirements and other nomination guidelines are listed, as well as instructions for nominees.

Once nominated, individuals compete in up to two rounds of judging by committees of students, faculty and staff.

The Thunderbird Awards have been a special part of SUU’s campus life since 1950. Each year, faculty, staff and students alike eagerly await this end-of-year celebration that highlights the university’s most outstanding assets.
