The Place is Right: T-Bird Banks on Fall Break Foray

Beau Condie, come on down. Yes, that line can only mean one thing, the Price is Right. And for this Thunderbird from St. George, Utah, his experience on America’s favorite game show was right who appeared on the Price is Right today’s showing.

“I was in such shock I didn’t even hear my name being called, my friends just started shoving and pushing me down to contestant row,” exclaimed Condie, a junior biology major.

Condie, who on a whim spent his 2013 Fall Break with three other Southern Utah University students to Hollywood, Calif. with hopes that at least one of them would have a chance in the limelight. Condie ended up being the lucky guy and was called on by comedian and game show host, Drew Carey.

One of the first four contestants to be called during the show, Condie was asked to bid on a Burton snowboard package and guessed $750 and was only a mere $70 off the retail price. Once he got on stage, and in his words gave Drew Carey an awkward hug, he played the game Switch.

Switch gives the contestant two items with a suggested price, for Condie it was a 55” LED TV and a top of the line grill. With the chance to either keep or switch the suggested price, Condie chose to switch.

“As soon as I told Drew that I wanted to switch the prices, my gut just dropped to the floor,” stated Condie. “The whole crowd was screaming and I swear that the models took their time switching the prices. When the correct price was shown and I guessed right, I just went nuts. Hugging Drew. Hugging models. Complete pandemonium.”

After winning $6,500 worth of gear he went on to spin the iconic, very heavy Wheel. With two contestants ahead of him, Condie was required to spin twice and unfortunately went over the $100 mark, ending his illustrious career on the game show.

Condie is like many SUU students, who take advantage of the unrivaled proximity of the campus to a variety of resources. SUU is ideally situated and officially named the Collegiate Gateway to the National Parks, but the outdoors isn’t the only nearby resource for Thunderbirds to fly to.

Even if students also want a metropolitan experience, SUU is located only a few short hours from the neon lights of Las Vegas, the oceans of California and the mountains of Salt Lake City.

To this end, Condie stated, “There are so many things to do close to campus, even on a tight budget. Once you dig deeper you find that going on shows like this costs only the gas, and who knows you can walk away with a new car. Being short on money shouldn’t be the excuse.”

The Price is Right is hosted by Drew Carey and produced by FremantleMedia North America, broadcasted on the CBS Television Network. The Price is Right is the network’s number one daytime program and longest-running game show. In the 2013 Annual Daytime Emmy Award, the Price is Right won its sixth Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Game Show.
