SUU Invites Public Participation in Accreditation

In its standard ongoing evaluation through the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU), Southern Utah University is preparing for a comprehensive review of its educational quality and effectiveness, in compliance with the Commission’s established standards. The NWCCU welcomes public input in its review of the University.

Regional accreditation of postsecondary institutions is a voluntary, non-governmental, self-regulatory process of quality assurance and institutional improvement. As an NWCCU-accredited institution since 1933, the NWCCU last reaffirmed SUU’s accreditation in Fall 2011 after a Year One Evaluation. SUU is now scheduled for a Year Seven Comprehensive Report and visit.

The public is invited to participate in the evaluation process by sending comments to the NWCCU no later than March 15, 2014. Public comments should be addressed to:

All signed comments will be forwarded, as received, to Southern Utah University, to the evaluation committee and to the Commission. Comments will be considered with regard to SUU's qualification for accreditation. 

The institutional self-study will be posted online by February 20, 2014.

The NWCCU evaluation team will review the self-study and will visit the SUU campus April 9 through 11, 2014. More details related to the campus visit will be published by March 26, 2014.

The NWCCU is an independent, nonprofit membership organization and is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation as the regional authority on educational quality and institutional effectiveness in Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington.
