Southern Utah University's Nate Jewkes has been named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Athlete of the Week after crossing the line first at the Roy Griak Invitational and leading the Thunderbirds to a first-place finish.

Jewkes finished the 8k course in 24:45.4, finishing ahead of runners from Texas and Michigan State and picking up the first individual cross country victory of his career for the Thunderbirds. The individual title set the stage for a four-point team title for SUU as the T-Birds finished ahead of nationally-ranked teams with a team score of 142.

Southern Utah will be back in action on Friday when the Thunderbirds compete at the Notre Dame Invitational.
