With five games scheduled in only four days, thunder is sure to crash in Thunderbird Nation this entire weekend with football, soccer and volleyball battling for the home field (and court) advantage beginning Thursday, September 25.
After four weeks of non-conference play, SUU’s volleyball team will begin the Big Sky portion of its season by opening against Sacramento State (5-10) Thursday, September 25 at 7 p.m. in the Centrum Arena. Following Thursday’s game, SUU volleyball will go net-to-net with Portland State (2-10) Saturday, September 27 at 1 p.m.
These Lady T-Birds have had an already impressive season with a 7-4 record, eclipsing their win total from a year ago and leading the Big Sky in opponent hitting percentages (.096).
SUU soccer (3-3-1) opens its conference season at home this weekend as well by hosting Sacramento State (5-4) on Friday, September 26 at 4 p.m., followed by a Sunday showdown with Portland State (3-3-2) at noon. The soccer team is riding the momentum of back-to-back overtime victories as they look to capture their first wins against the Hornets and the Vikings since joining the Big Sky. Tickets to SUU soccer games are free and bounce houses for the kids will be available Friday.
In the recently inaugurated Beehive Bowl, SUU football will open its Big Sky Conference slate when they take on in-state rival Weber State on Saturday, September 27 at 6:05 p.m. With one of the most difficult opening seasons in school history against nationally ranked foes, SUU is gearing up for their first win. Hoping to show the rest of the state who wears the brightest shade of red, all fans are asked to wear red to the game.
For tickets to volleyball and football games, visit tbirdtickets.com or purchase at the gate. A Fall Toiletry Drive will be hosted at both volleyball and football games through the Student Athlete Advisory Committee; each donated toiletry item equals $1 off ticket price, up to $5 off ticket price.
Though they may not be playing at home, SUU cross country and SUU women’s golf will be competing. Cross country has flown to Minnesota for the Roy Griak Invitational and women’s golf will return to the fairway in Palm Desert, Calif. for the Wyoming Cowgirl Desert Intercollegiate September 27-28.
