Debate Planned for County Sheriff Candidates

Southern Utah University’s Michael O. Leavitt Center for Politics will welcome the candidates running for Iron County Sheriff Thursday, October 23, from 6–7 p.m. in the Sharwan Smith Student Center Living Room. The candidates on deck for the evening’s debate include Sheriff Mark Gower and Sergeant Dave McIntyre.

The campus community and general public are all welcome to attend, to learn more about the candidates as the November election season draws near.

Additionally, candidates running for County Clerk within House Districts 71 and 72, and Senate District 28 candidates will participate in a meet-and-greet before the debate from 5:30 to 6 and again after the debate from 7-8 p.m.  

The Michael O. Leavitt Center for Politics, located in the Sharwan Smith Center and Gerald R. Sherratt Library, provides an important service on campus as an interdisciplinary hub for leadership opportunities, citizenship education, public and humanitarian service, and public policy research.

The Leavitt Center is a non-partisan, interdisciplinary organization dedicated to preparing students to serve as responsible and educated leaders in a democratic society.
