Twenty-four years ago, President George H. W. Bush declared November as National American Indian Heritage Month. To honor this month the Multicultural Center at Southern Utah University will conduct a free screening of For the Generations: Native Story and Performance on Monday, November 10 at 7 p.m. in the Sharwan Smith Student Center room 161D.

The film focuses on highlighting Native American performers infusing contemporary genres of dance and music with traditional elements from their tribal heritage through artist interviews and performances. It consists of six profiles documenting the efforts to bring this native fusion genre to mainstream performing arts.

The celebratory month intends to provide a platform where the American Indian community in the U.S. can share their culture, traditions, music, crafts, dance and concepts of life. The month also aims to raise awareness and federal agencies are encouraged to provide educational programs for their employees regarding Native American history.
