Southern Utah University is a mecca of diversity and culture when it comes to the arts. From Tony award-winning plays to beautiful symphonies, students can experience and witness creative expression from all perspectives without ever leaving campus.

This February, SUU’s Department of Music is performing Sound Sketch: An SUU Jazz Band Concert. Without paying a dime, students and community members can come and experience a swinging musical portrait of student talent and professional expertise.

Michael Vance, a well-known composer and saxophonist, has been invited to join the ensemble. Vance has performed for various dignitaries and government leaders, including President and First Lady Obama and George W. Bush. He also performed at the funerals of Ronald Reagan and Gerald Ford and has been a featured performer with Kenny Loggins, Randy Travis, and many others.

Excited to welcome this musical celebrity is Dr. Thomas Herb, who will be directing the concert. Herb has chosen a wide variety of selections across the big band and jazz repertoire.

The concert is free to the public and will be held on Saturday February 21, at 7:30 p.m. in the Auditorium Theatre at SUU.
