Deb Snider. Southern Utah University assistant professor of art education, can now add another award to her long list of accomplishments as she accepts the 2015 Pacific Region Higher Education Art Educator award.

Earlier this year, Snider was selected to be the 2015 Higher Education Art Educator of the Year by the Utah Art Education Association.

When asked about her former 2D Design professor, Jamie Jarvis gave a huge grin said, “You walk into her classroom so relaxed and so comfortable with anything she asks you to do. There was no stress in that class.”

Jarvis went on to say, “Deb is so talented and she cares so much about her students. She cares about their success, their art and their talent. She helps them develop wherever they want to develop. She’s good about talking to you about what your goals are and she helps you get there.”

During her career, Snider has directed three community art centers in Florida, Colorado and Oregon and now currently serves as the Cedar City Art Council’s president.

She is a visual artist in drawing, mixed media and art quilt, and her work has been exhibited and collected worldwide.

Snider will accept the award at the National Art Education Association’s (NAEA) national convention in New Orleans this week.

The NAEA advances visual arts education to fulfill human potential and promote global understanding.
