High school dance students from across the state of Utah will be on Southern Utah University’s campus to participate in classes and share their work. The Gala Concert, where carefully selected dance pieces are performed for the public, will be held in the Randall L Jones Theatre on Saturday, March 5. The gala concert begins at 6:00 p.m. This event is free to the public.
The 15th Annual Utah Dance Education Organization (UDEO) High School Dance Festival will take place Friday & Saturday, March 4th-5th, 2016 at Southern Utah University, in Cedar City, Utah. This year's Festival will include approximately 20 High Schools, and 400 students, from all over Utah. The Festival, a one-day event (plus special Friday night audition/master class) patterned after the American College Dance Festival (ACDF) and National High School Dance Festival (NHSDF), will feature master/technique classes and workshops, adjudication of student and professional choreographic works, and a closing Gala concert with presentation of awards and scholarships. The Gala Concert is a free event, open to the public which showcases student, faculty and guest artist work from each participating school. The Gala begins at 6:00 p.m. on March 5 in the Randall L Jones Theatre at SUU. Tickets not required.
Denise Purvis, Assistant Professor of Dance at Southern Utah University, is extremely supportive of this program. She explains, “This is an opportunity for high school dance programs throughout Utah to share their work with their peers and the community of Cedar City.” These students come from Davis High School to Tuacahn High School and many in between. The UDEO High School Dance Festival affords them the chance to view work that they would not otherwise be able to experience.
Join Southern Utah University in applauding these dancers when they come together in one theatre to share their talent with Cedar City. For more information about the UDEO High School Dance Festival, please visit www.udeo.org.
