Business Executive Speaker Tells Students to 'Dream Big'

Are you the one controlling the steering wheel of your life? If not who is? In Sterling K. Jenson’s presentation “Dream big - You Control Your Destiny” he will address thoughts and ideas that students may use to help direct them in their career and personal choices in life. He will present in the State Bank of Southern Utah Business Executive Speaker Series at 11:30 AM on Thursday, March 24th, in the Starlight Room of the Sharwan Smith Student Center on the Southern Utah University campus.
Mr. Sterling K Jenson presently serves as a Senior Client Advisor with The Cynosure Group in Salt Lake City, Utah. Previously, he was a Regional Managing Director for Wells Capital Management ($350 billion under management) with responsibility for managing portfolio managers and client portfolios throughout the Intermountain West. Prior to this Mr. Jenson was the President and CEO of First Security Management, the largest investment management firm in Utah. He has also worked as Manager of Trust Investments for First Interstate Bank of Nevada and Moore Trust Company, and as the Director of Equity Research at Smoot, Miller, Cheney & Co. He was also employed as a Portfolio Manager for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Investment Department.
Mr. Jenson has worked in the investment management and financial services industries since 1977. He is a member and former chairman of the National Advisory Council, BYU Marriott School of Management and is on the Advisory Board of Pelion Venture Partners. Previously, he has been appointed by the Governor of Utah to help establish the Foster Care Foundation of Utah and to serve on the School Lands Trust Fund Investment Committee. He is also a member of the CFA Institute and served as the President of the CFA Society of Salt Lake City. He enjoys performing in theater productions and serves on the boards of Centerpoint Legacy Theater and Hale Centre Theatre.
He is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and Chartered Investment Counselor (CIC). Mr. Jenson holds an M.B.A degree in Finance from Brigham Young University and a B.A. in Economics.
Mr. Jenson is married, has 8 children and 22 grandchildren. He is actively involved in religious and civic organizations and enjoys all sports, golf, reading, music, travel, and family activities.
