The School of Business at Southern Utah University has maintained its business accreditation by AACSB International—The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Founded in 1916, AACSB International is the longest serving global accrediting body for business schools that offer undergraduate, master's, and doctoral degrees in business and accounting.
AACSB Accreditation is the hallmark of excellence in business education, and has been earned by less than five percent of the world's business programs. Today, there are 761 business schools in 52 countries and territories that maintain AACSB Accreditation. Similarly, 183 institutions maintain an additional specialized AACSB Accreditation for their accounting programs.
“It takes a great deal of commitment and determination to earn and maintain AACSB Accreditation,” said Robert D. Reid, executive vice president and chief accreditation officer of AACSB International. “Business schools must not only meet specific standards of excellence, but their deans, faculty, and professional staff must make a commitment to ongoing continuous improvement to ensure that the institution will continue to deliver the highest quality of education to students.”
The six academic programs at SUU that are nationally accredited by the AACSB International are: Accounting, Finance, Management, Marketing, Masters in Accountancy, and Masters in Business Administration. Findings from the AACSB International include the School of Business’s emphasis on ethical reasoning and moral courage across disciplines. They also found many opportunities for students to develop their entrepreneurial skills and the ability to engage with top-quality faculty and professionals. The findings also concluded that the school has an exceptionally high placement rate at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Students that graduate from the finance program have a 100% employment rate within six months of graduating. 75% of accounting students are employed at a relevant job on the day of their graduation.
“We are excited to have a successful conclusion to our most recent visit by an AACSB-International Peer Review Team where our accreditation has been extended by five more years,” said Carl Templin, Dean of the School of Business. “The team was thorough and provided extensive consultative feedback, which we will use to improve our programs further. This underscores the excellent faculty, staff, and students we have in the School of Business.”
