Taylor Cella, studentSouthern Utah University has been featured in the top ten best online colleges in Utah. Value Colleges compiled a list in an effort to feature the most affordable, highest-quality online degree options to students in each state.

“With more and more working adult and professional students choosing online degree programs, prospective students will benefit from a comprehensive list,” said Carrie Sealey-Morris, lead editor at Value Colleges. “The list details the accredited, reputable options in their home states.”

SUU came in as number three in Utah, receiving the ranking thanks to a focus on quality education whether it be online or in the classroom. The ranking also noted that the university is a fully accredited member of the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities.

Students can earn a variety of graduate degrees online, ranging from a Master’s of Accounting to an endorsement in special education. A new program in the approval process is the Master's Degree of Interdisciplinary Studies (MIS). This program will likely be available for registration either Fall 2017 or Spring 2018, through the Graduate & Online school.

“This is a great degree, allowing students to choose their credits from most other graduate programs,” said Mark Atkinson, dean of the graduate & online school at Southern Utah University. “Someone can take, for example, credits in corporate online training, business administration, and cyber security, plus a project-based capstone course all in one degree.”

Online classes allow for students to have peer to peer access in discussions, that are limited in face to face classes. Interaction in online classes grants students the ability to think critically before contributing to conversations. Most learning activities with student collaborations may be replicated online.

“Online classes allow for students to take advantage of SUU whether they can visit our Cedar City campus or not,” said Atkinson. “The structure of the courses also have inherent flexibility since the interaction and work may be done at any time of day.”
