SUU Convocations is proud to present the PBS NewsHour icon, Jeffrey Brown to celebrate National Poetry Month and the last Convocation of the 2017 – 2018 season. Jeffrey Brown’s lecture and poetry reading will take place in The Great Hall, in the Hunter Conference Center on SUU’s Campus on April 13, 2017. Brown’s book, The News, a book of poetry, will be available for purchase and signing in the lobby after his talk. This event is free and open to the public, as are all lectures in the SUU Convocation Series.
Jeffrey Brown is a native of Boston, Massachusetts and has been working for PBS’ NewsHour for over twenty years. Brown currently is currently the Chief Correspondent for Arts, Culture, and Society for PBS. Brown holds degrees from the University of California, Berkley and the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. Most of Brown’s career has been based around journalism and has covered many stories in the arts and culture of different societies. He has interviewed other reporters, worldwide musicians, authors, artists, and other elites in their trades.
Brown has recently added poet to his already substantial biography. In an interview on Idaho Public Television he discussed how he has often written his reports and news stories with a poetic nature and now has tailored these words from his broad career into reflection through poetry. The News collection turns the “news” into poetry, and blends the world of the journalist with that of the creative writer and artist.
