Graphic showcasing SUU's ranking 20th in the Learfield Cup StandingsThe first fall standings of the Division I Learfield Directors’ Cup have been announced, and Southern Utah University currently sits 20th in the NCAA.

Southern Utah is currently the top ranked team in the Big Sky Conference, and the second in the state of Utah. The T-Birds are also the second-highest ranked FCS program behind only Princeton.

SUU received 53 points from the men’s cross country team’s 21st place finish, and 49 points for the women’s team finishing in 25th place. This brings Southern Utah to a total of 102 points.

Three sports were considered for the first fall rankings: men’s cross country, women’s cross country and women’s field hockey.

“To be a player in the Directors’ Cup year after year is a real testament to the student-athletes and coaches we have on this campus,” SUU Director of Athletics Debbie Corum said. “I want to congratulate coach Eric Houle and his teams, and hope that they’ve laid the groundwork for what will be a very special year for the department as a whole.”

The Learfield Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today.  Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in NCAA Championships.
