student athlete GPA 3.2The Southern Utah University Athletic Department has announced that the student-athlete population were able to attain an average grade point average (GPA) of 3.2 during SUU’s Fall Semester.

“Achieving academically, and graduating student-athletes is our No. 1 goal for the athletic department so this is a great accomplishment,” SUU Athletic Director Debbie Corum said. “This would not happen without the dedication of SUU’s faculty, academic advisors, athletic academic support staff, and coaches. But, we must recognize that the commitment from our student-athletes to their individual academic success is what ultimately helps us achieve this recognition. Congratulations to these outstanding students, who also happen to be athletes, on this feat.”

This accomplishment fulfilled the first portion of the Athletic Department’s GPA goal for the year, and improved upon the term GPA for the previous two semesters.

“This kind of performance is indicative of the commitment that SUU faculty, staff, and the student-athletes have in working together towards a common goal,” SUU Assistant AD for Academics Josh Wardle said. “There are many incredible people on campus that strive to help our student-athletes excel, for which we are grateful. We are confident that our student-athletes can continue improving beyond this semester because of the tireless efforts put in by our students and the growing level of support and resources at the university, as well as within the Athletic Department.”
