After months of research and collaboration, a new SUU/Birdhead logo has been designed and selected. The process began with several meetings and design revisions followed by a campus wide survey in order to elicit feedback and ultimately choose a new logo.“We needed a logo that included both the Thunderbird mascot and the SUU wordmark in order to represent the entire university,” said Nikki Koontz, executive director of marketing communication. “We appreciate everyone’s support and participation throughout this process and are excited to introduce the new logo to the community.”
Wanting input from the campus, the Marketing Communication Team created and distributed a survey in the spring. 1536 people participated in the survey including 1,146 students, 200 staff, 115 faculty, 70 alumnus and 5 community members. There was a clear favorite with 92.5% choosing the Birdhead with the curved SUU letters (option one on the survey).
“It was very clear what option people preferred,” said Koontz. “Having the curved SUU letters directly behind Thor gives a centered, balanced feel to the logo, which can be easily applied and used on a variety of marketing materials, apparel and merchandise.”
The standalone Thor logo will still be used as this is the visual representation of the SUU Thunderbirds mascot.
