SUU Professor Publishes Spanish Poetry Collection

Associate Professor of Spanish Carlos Bertoglio recently wrote and published a collection of Spanish poetry titled Una Temporada en el Ruido. This is Dr. Bertoglio’s second poetry publication, and the entirety of this collection was written in just one month thanks to the creative support Southern Utah University offers its faculty.
The concept of the collection was to capture the nature of living abroad and the variety of feelings that surface each time one returns home. Unusual to his normal writing style, Bertoglio dedicated only about two days to each poem in Una Temporada en el Ruido, significantly speeding up the entire process.
“The truth is, this book had been writing itself in my head for a long, long time,” said Dr. Bertoglio. “This is a very special book. It was entirely written in the room where I spent the first 30 years of my life in Argentina.”
After an unexpected turn of events during a visit to his hometown in Argentina, Dr. Bertoglio was struck with the inspiration and nostalgia that prompted the beginning of his book.
“As it turns out, these months in Argentina were the last ones I spent with my family as a whole,” Dr. Bertoglio said. “In a very profound and intuitive way, I was able to anticipate this and in a very imperfect way, capture it in this small book.”
As part of the SUU community, Dr. Bertoglio hopes this book will give visibility to creative Spanish literary works. He has presented pieces of the collection at different Cazapalabras club meetings. Cazapalabras is a literary club that Dr. Bertoglio created last year dedicated to reading Spanish texts.
“Carlos Bertoglio is an astounding professor and Cazapalabras is a very fun and engaging club,” said Kolton Elmer, a senior at SUU studying Spanish and Pre-Med. “One meeting Dr. Bertoglio shared with us a segment of his book, and I was highly impressed by the thoughts and feeling his poetry invoked. He is very gifted at what he does.”
SUU has supported Dr. Bertoglio in his creative endeavors by providing him time to invest in writing the book and by hosting the book launch party. Dr. Bertoglio is thankful for his colleagues continuous support.
Una Temporada en el Ruido can be purchased online and shipped all over the world.
