A.P.E.X. Events – SUU’s Premier Event Series – is honored to present the multi-faceted writer, Kavitha A. Davidson. With a career that has been respected by media outlets such as Bloomberg View, ESPN, The Huffington Post, MSNBC, CNN, CBS, and Fox Sports, Davidson’s interview with Dr. Lynn Vartan will explore valuable tips and tricks for anyone interested in a career of writing and the intersection of race and gender in sports culture. You are invited to this one-of-a-kind event on Thursday, October 24, at 11:30 a.m., in the Great Hall on SUU’s campus.
The latest of Davidson’s projects is co-hosting the podcast, The Lead, with Anders Kelto. Being a part of The Athletic, a site for sports journalism, The Lead is a news podcast that goes deeper into real stories that are behind-the-scenes of the regular reporting of scores. Currently, Davidson is co-authoring a book with sportswriter Jessica Luther. The working title is, "How to Love Sports When They Don't Love You Back." The premise of the book is that maintaining fandom can often be difficult given the political and social climate of
sports. Each chapter deals with a different moral dilemma of fandom: for example, How to Love Sports When You Hate Your Owner, How to Enjoy Games at the New Stadium that Ruined Your Neighborhood, How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love Baseball, Free Market, How to Watch Football When You Know What It Does to Players, Brains and How to Root for a Team With Players Accused of Domestic Violence.
"Continually writing and speaking for large media outlets is no small matter, let alone the versatility that Kavitha A. Davidson has presented in her coverage," said Dr. Lynn Vartan, director of A.P.E.X. Events. "I am excited to discuss her writing, as well as her views on the culture of sports in the US!”
