America’s Small Business Development Centers recently recognized Joni Anderson as the “Utah Star” Small Business Development Center counselor for the past year. The award was presented at the 39th Annual America’s SBDC Conference in Long Beach, California.
Counselors from each state were nominated by their peers and selected by the state directors for outstanding performance and achievement. The nominees were invited to a distinguished ceremony featuring over 1,300 professionals, directors, and counselors in the field.
“Joni has long been a ‘star’ in the SUU Small Business Development Center and Procurement Technical Assistance Center,” said Craig Isom, director of the SUU Business Resource Center. “Her tireless efforts to help clients in our region have resulted in many business successes. We are fortunate to have such a well qualified and dedicated business counselor here at SUU.”
As the assistant director of SUU’s Small Business Development Center (SBDC), Joni provides in-depth, high quality, one-on-one business counseling to entrepreneurs and potential entrepreneurs. Joni also serves as the regional manager of the Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC), assisting companies seeking to do business with the government by providing quality bid-matching solutions and government contracting guidance.
Through both positions, Joni is developing and coordinating business training and counseling as needed for both pre-venture and existing business clients throughout Iron, Beaver, and Garfield counties. She has guided numerous entrepreneurs and existing small business owners to success since she started in 1997.
“I am so proud of this recognition,” said Joni. “It is an honor to be able to work with entrepreneurs who are pursuing their dreams and making a lasting impact in our community.”
Small Business Development Centers are hosted by leading universities and colleges, state economic development agencies and private sector partners. With 14 centers housing counselors across the entire state, it is no small accomplishment to receive the “Utah Star” award.
SUU’s Small Business Development Center is located in the SUU Business Resource Center in the Business and Technology Building on the campus of Southwest Technical College.
