More Than 850 Locals Learn Something New
At the close of their first full-year of operation, SUU Community Education offered more than 100 community-based classes with more than 850 residents signing up. This fall, 41 courses are still open for registration offering local residents the opportunity to learn new hobbies and skills.
“We survey the community every year and really try to offer the classes they request,” said Susie Knudsen, assistant director at SUU Community Education. “The response from the community during our first year has been overwhelming. Many of our participants also spent quality time with family members and friends while enjoying fun, educational opportunities.”

“It was really fun to attend together — Nate was so brave to come with me,” said Amber. “And, we both learned a lot together about cake decorating. But the most fun was making a few new friends along the way.”
This October, don’t miss a second offering of Acrylic Pouring or Alcohol Ink Painting. For those who have always wanted to pull a rabbit out of a hat, Lynn Craven, formerly a magician at Magic Castle in Hollywood, will be instructing a class on magic tricks and secrets.
The popular culinary class Meet the Chef is held every Wednesday evening through November 6. The class, much like a cooking show on television, brings in chefs from Bruno’s Pizza, Gather on the Mountain, and The Pizza Cart to teach a favorite recipe inside the culinary demonstration lab at Southwest Technical College in Cedar City.
Fall into fun this November while checking items off your Christmas gift list with Alcohol Ink Painting or a class in Soap Making. Learn from an experienced soap-maker about how good the gentleness of handmade soap is for your skin. Explore scents and possible ingredients while making a one-pound batch to take home and enjoy — or wrap as a gift.
SUU Community Education offers community classes, workshops and events while engaging residents with fun, cultural, and educational opportunities for those who love to learn. While increasing participant knowledge, these non-credit courses are designed for community members wishing to meet new people, develop new hobbies, or improve areas of personal interest.
