A.P.E.X Events Announces Spring 2020 Lineup

Events is Southern Utah University’s premier weekly lecture series, with speakers and presenters invited from all areas of the world. Attendees to our events are students, faculty, staff and community members, and the series features a diverse range of topics and disciplines.

We continue to strive for diversity and interest for all and hope you can join us many times this Spring! This semester will feature our own Dr. David Lunt as our Faculty distinguished Lecturer, Bestselling author of crazy and fascinating science stories Sam Kean, Artist Xárene Eskander speaking about Artificial Intelligence in the Arts, and much, much more!

Jan. 16 – Samira Harnish – Eccles Visiting Scholar – The founder and Executive Director of the Women of the World service organization speaks about building a community around self-reliance and trust. 

Jan. 23 – David Lunt – Faculty Distinguished Lecturer – “The Crown Games of Ancient Greece: Olympics, Athletes, and the Panhellenic Contests” 

Jan. 30 – Josh Eyler – Excellence for Teaching and Learning – The acclaimed education and teaching scholar discusses strategies and tactics for effective teaching from his book How Humans Learn. 

Feb. 6 – Carolyn McKinstry – Black History Month – While the World Watched: A Birmingham Bombing Survivor Comes of Age During the Civil Rights Movement 

Feb. 13 – Encircle – Sharing Allies – Representatives from the Utah LGBTQ+ Family & Youth Resource Center share their organization and offerings. 

Feb. 20 –Sam Kean – Fascinating Science Stories – Best-selling author of Caesar’s Last Breath & The Tale of the Dueling Neurosurgeons talks about Spoons & Thumbs: Funny and completely true science stories! 

Feb. 27 – Xárene Eskandar – Artificial Intelligence and the arts – The artist, designer and creative initiator utilizes video and photography to explore a philosophy of semantics for artificial intelligence. 

March 5 – Clocks in Motion – Collaboration in Music – Special performance from the percussion group followed by a discussion of collaboration in music. 

March 10 – Tara Bench – “Focus Business” Collaboration superstar and founder of Tara Teaspoon shares The Reluctant Entrepreneur – Starting your brand and business. 

March 26 – Donovan Livingston – Eccles Visiting Scholar – The award-winning educator, spoken word poet, and public speaker shares his story from his book Lift Off: From the classroom to the stars. 

April 1 – Paula Marshall – Festival of Excellence Keynote– The CEO of the Bama Companies shares her companies’ mission of “people helping people be successful” and inspires audiences to take on the giants in their own lives.
