On April 3 a campus wide email was sent to SUU's campus community about the first confirmed case of COVID-19 at SUU.
Subject: Confirmed Coronavirus Case on Campus
Dear Campus Community,
Late last night (April 2, 2020), we received confirmation that a student at Southern Utah University has tested positive for COVID-19. This student is not an international student, nor is this student one of our Jumpstart program participants who studied abroad in Italy. This student did not travel for spring break but contracted the coronavirus from somewhere in the community. There are eight other confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Iron County, all others are not connected with the University.
The student does not live on campus and has been placed in a 14-day quarantine as recommended by federal, state and local health guidelines. The student has not been hospitalized and is home resting and recovering. In conjunction with the Southwest Utah Public Health Department, SUU will continue to support the student toward a full and speedy recovery.
Federal and state laws require that SUU protect the identity of the student so no other specific details about the student will be released.
We urge all faculty, staff, and students to continue to monitor SUU’s coronavirus page at www.suu.edu/coronavirus for further campus updates.
